Scholarships

The Peter Connelly Scholarship program, established in 1987, serves to encourage the perpetuation of traditional music through the offering of partial financial support to Scottish Fiddlers of California (SFC) Fiddle School attendees. These grants, usually in the amount of $100, $200 or $300 (subject to change), are awarded on the basis of financial need, demonstrated interest, talent, and promise. You need not be an accomplished musician to apply. Applications are judged by the Board of the Scholarship Committee and awarded to those who have been accepted to fiddle camp. There are special scholarships, in larger amounts, awarded to promising students traveling from Scotland and Cape Breton Island, and for other special circumstances. These are limited to two per year. This program is supported by private donations, 85% of which come from the attendees of the various fiddle camps run by SFC.

To apply for a scholarship, download the student application and teacher recommendation forms.  You will need Adobe Reader to open them, and you will be able to fill out the student application on your computer, except for item Nos. 6 and 7, which must be completed by hand.  The teacher recommendation can only be filled out by hand.  Please make sure both forms are mailed in time to reach Pate Thomson, 647 Cragmont Ave, Berkeley, CA 94708, by May 1, 2008.
